Following or being guided by fashion is all very well if you like looking your best and you want to keep up with the latest trends but being a fashion freak in the strict sense of the word is a completely different concept and is not really so good for you.

Allowing yourself to be guided by fashion means that you see what is being offered out there on the cat walks, in the magazines, on the people that you see every day and you decide what it is that you like about what you see.

What attracts your eye is possibly one item of the outfit like say the skirt that you saw a woman or model wearing and you say to yourself that you simply have to find out where you can find one like that or one that is similar. But maybe you won’t necessarily wear that particular skirt with the see-through blouse that the person you saw was wearing because you say to yourself ‘no, that’s not me, I’m a mother of two children and besides my husband would have a fit!’ So you are obviously a person that is guided by fashion but you have your own final say and decide what is for you and what is not for you, and just because it is fashion doesn’t mean that you have to wear it.

It has been quite the in thing and very fashionable up until recently to be ultra skinny. As everyone knows and can see, the models on the cat walk all looked as if they had anorexia and were so gaunt and pale that the only thing that looked good were the clothes that they were wearing.

If you spoke to men to try and find out their opinion on these women or rather young girls, their reaction was nearly always the same – they didn’t like it at all, they didn’t look like real women but more like walking bones.

Then recently certain celebrities have come to fame with their voluptuous curves like Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce, Eva Mendez and quite a few more and when you hear the opinion from men on these women it is now very different, these to them are real women. These stars have also shown us how even with their larger size they can still look good, or rather very good, in the clothes that they wear.

Everyone flies and some people have flown on many different airlines so they know how different each one can be. There are some that are the best and some that are the worst. But in all of them the thing that one seems to remember as standing out the most is the flight attendants that look after you and if they are dressed nicely is something that leaves a good or bad impression with you.

In days gone by the air stewardesses always seemed to look so smart, especially the ones that worked for BOAC as it was known in those days, now it is called British Airways. But well, in those days the air stewardesses wore a navy pencil skirt, just above the knees, with a starched white blouse, navy blue jacket and a red, blue and white scarf around their necks. They nearly always had, if they had long hair, their hair tied up in a very elegant French pleat or bun and they would usually wear stud pearl ear-rings. As you can see, one remembers all these details and so that means that their impression on people must have been a good one.

There really is no such thing as fashion in the office but all of us who work in an office know that there are certain rules which our employers would wish us to adhere to.

We really can’t go in dressed with torn jeans and t shirts falling off our shoulders. We supposedly know that every now and then important clients are going to be visiting and they can’t be expected to see the office staff dressed in such an informal manner.

When one goes to work, you are expected to do your work to the best of your ability, but unfortunately for all those who like to dress informally, impressions are very important and so the way you dress leaves an impression on everyone that sees you.

If you are trying to climb your way up the office ladder to a better and higher position you will not achieve it at all if you continue to dress in an uncared for manner. You know that at the end of the day you can put on what the hell you like once you are out of the office, but while you are in the office, for your own good and for your own progression you should give a thought to how you dress.

We are always talking about fashion in terms of the clothes that we wear and our hair styles and make-up but there is another type of fashion as well which is the style and trend that we apply to our homes.

Over the years we have gone through very many changes and like everything related to fashion changes are brought about so that we spend more. If there were no fashion trends, we would all carry on wearing the same type of clothes as we had been wearing for years and our homes would always look the same.
